It’s Christmas break!
This is the perfect time to look back at some moments from our afternoons with the Mini-school group. Here are some of the fun activities we’ve enjoyed so far:Exploring Nature and Autumn
This autumn, we explored the nature around us. We collected leaves from different trees, along with acorns, chestnuts, cones, and branches.
- What colours can leaves have?
“They are from different seasons!” said Luna when we compared green and yellow leaves. - Moira picked up a branch and said, “It smells so good!”
We also looked at our nature treasures under magnifying glasses and microscope, discovering interesting details
Creating Art with Nature Gifts
Nature inspired us to create!
- We traced and drew the leaves, experimenting with shapes and lines.
- Mixing autumn colours, we painted our findings, stamped prints onto paper, and even crafted mobiles and decorations once they dried.
Discovering Letters and Words
The children are very curious about letters! We’ve been exploring them in different ways:
- Gabriel stamped some letters and asked, “What did I write? Can you read it?”
- Erika joined, “I want to write my name!”
The retro projector turned letters into a fun, interactive game:
- Leon read his name touching the letters projected onto the wall.
- Luna and Jade excitedly noticed: “We both have the letter A in our names!”
We spent some time building words and names with letters and writing them down
Building and Creating
Our afternoons are filled with creativity: drawing, building, crafting with playdough, and designing with mosaics.
- Playdough is one of our favourite material that inspires endless stories. We’ve made cakes, cookies, and pizzas, explored different forms and even created masks of the “monster” that lives in the bushes outside. Every creation tells a new story!
- Creating from mosaics requires focus and patience, especially when choosing just the right colours and patterns.
- Small blocks helped us create props for games. Marcus built a vacuum cleaner, but it was too tall and fell apart. Amy helped him fix it, and now it works perfectly. Leon wanted to build a penguin, which was tricky because he wanted it to stand up in 3D.
- Luna built a castle, and Elliot made a train for animals. Magnets are great for making all kinds of things!
Free Play, Books, and Outdoor Fun
There is always time for free play, reading books, singing songs, and outdoor discoveries:
- While exploring a book about animals, Leon asked, “Is the hedgehog that big?”—stretching his hands wide. “What does he eat?” We read on to find out!
- We loooove dancing and singing and never miss a chance to put on some music
- We can build so many different kinds of huts and houses!
- The snow day was so FUN!
- We spend time drawing, creating and playing different games
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Enjoy the holidays, and we look forward to seeing you very soon!
